KDG Construction Consulting is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support our project management team in a high-priority, large-scale infrastructure environment. This role is responsible for assisting in the management of project scope, schedule, budget, and the development of the Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP). The Assistant Project Manager acts as a key collaborator between project leadership, design teams, and stakeholders, ensuring that complex programs are delivered safely and efficiently. This position plays a critical role in ensuring schedule certainty and budget delivery while maintaining a strong health, safety, and environmental culture. The Assistant Project Manager will work closely with the Design-Build team and various stakeholders to optimize risk mitigation and manage operational interfaces effectively within an active, operating environment.
Position Summary:
The Assistant Project Manager is responsible for assisting the Project Manager with managing the scope, cost, schedule, and operational interfaces of all design and construction-related activities. This role requires a professional with a solid understanding of Progressive Design-Build project delivery and the ability to establish lasting communication with diverse stakeholders. The Assistant Project Manager will support the project team through the entire project life cycle—from concept and project definition to pre-construction, implementation, commissioning, and closeout—ensuring that design and construction work meets all required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Design Management Support:
• Support the Primary Liaison and Owner’s Representative in directing and managing the project to meet goals and objectives.
• Assist in scope development and management; oversee the trade procurement process and the development of the GMP.
• Oversee the Design Manager to ensure timely resolution of technical issues, processing of RFIs, and coordination of shop drawing reviews, mock-up approvals, and site acceptance tests.
• Monitor and lead efforts related to the permitting process required by the design team and contractor.
• Identify and study options for complex design, operational, or constructability issues to enable strategic decision-making.
Construction & Operational Coordination:
• Oversee the construction process to remove and mitigate obstacles that cause inefficiencies.
• Work with designers, contractors, and stakeholders to develop overall planning of construction activities and identify critical milestones.
• Conduct field surveys and investigations to capture detailed and accurate field conditions for strategic design decisions.
• Ensure all work is performed and inspected according to the latest versions of plans, specifications, submittals, and RFIs.
• Manage the closeout and punch-list process to ensure all documentation is completed efficiently.
Risk, Financial & Stakeholder Leadership:
• Lead stakeholder engagement to identify, communicate, and resolve needs while preserving project principles and constraints.
• Prepare reports summarizing progress and a monthly risk report for the Program Board.
• Review change proposals for contractual compliance and alignment with fair market value.
• Review pay applications to ensure verification of completed work and compliance with contract requirements.
• Maintain excellent working relationships geared toward open communication and mutual problem-solving.
Qualifications
Required:
• 10+ years of experience in project management, with a strong emphasis on large-scale infrastructure or public facility programs.
• Experience with projects exceeding $40 million in value.
• Proven experience with Design-Build delivery, specifically Progressive Design-Build.
• Ability to perform in a management capacity within an operating/active environment (aviation, transportation, or public facilities).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, and Project Management/Project Controls software.
• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Planning, or a related technical field.
Preferred:
• DBIA Certification (Strongly Preferred).
• Professional certifications such as PMP, PE, LEED, AAAE, or AICP.
• Experience in assembling KPIs and decisions for Executive Governance and presentations.
Core Competencies:
• High level of leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and coordinate within an active operating environment.
• Strong organizational and time management skills to ensure on-schedule completion.

Anticipated Salary Range: $137,000.00 – $149,000.00 per year
